Boulder, CO, July 9th, 2007 — The AMGA Board of Directors Would Like to Welcome Betsy Novak  as the New Executive Director

The American Mountain Guides Association Board of Directors recently selected Betsy Novak  (former AMGA Program Director) to serve as the next Executive Director (ED) for the American  Mountain Guides Association.

In early March of this year the board announced that former ED Mike Alkaitis would be  stepping down after almost seven years and began a national search for the appropriate  individual to fill that unique and challenging role. After two months of reviewing  applications and interviewing candidates, the AMGA ED Search Committee presented their  choice to the AMGA Board of Directors at the June Board Meeting. Shortly thereafter the  Board of Directors offered Betsy Novak the position of AMGA Executive Director.

Betsy Novak served as the AMGA Program Director for just over one year. Betsy took over the  Program Director position in a time of great transition and successfully oversaw the  implementation of the new 2007 Course Structure. Furthermore, she was instrumental in  creating all new course and exam material for AMGA programs.

When asked about the decision to hire Betsy, John Bicknell, AMGA President replied, “Betsy  was very successful as the AMGA's Program Director, overseeing a complete reorganization of  the training and certification standards and the PD position itself-- these accomplishments  have earned her the respect of the membership and led directly to her being chosen for the  new leadership of the AMGA.”

Phil Powers, American Alpine Club ED and AMGA Board Member, commented, "We are extremely  pleased to have Betsy in this role. She brings organizational experience and extraordinary  energy to the fast pace of growth we face at the AMGA."

Novak previously worked for Leave No Trace the Center for Outdoor Ethics, the National  Forest Service, and several organizations dedicated to serving young adults. She has a  Bachelor of Arts from Western Washington University in Experiential Environmental Education.

  Novak先后为Leave No Trace户外规范中心(the Center for Outdoor Ethics),国家林业局,还有几个 青年工作组织工作过。
