| 也许出于对历史有个交待的原因，希拉里最终打破了沉默。他在1999年他的“从顶峰看风光（View from the Summit)”一书中详细描述了登顶时的细节，证实希拉里是第一个登顶的，诺尔盖紧跟其后。 在1986年诺尔盖去世之前，希拉里一直拒绝说出他自己是第一个登顶的，而是说他们两人是以团队的形式一起登顶的。从中可看出希拉里作人的厚道和对朋友的忠诚。 "We drew closer together as Tenzing brought in the slack on the rope. I continued cutting a line of steps upwards. Next moment I had moved onto a flattish exposed area of snow with nothing but space in every direction...Tenzing quickly joined me and we looked round in wonder. To our immense satisfaction we realized we had reached the top of the world." |
